Why has my website stopped working?
The most common causes are a plugin, theme or extension update that clashes with something else, your host changing the PHP version, an expired domain or hosting account, or a hack. A white screen or "critical error" message usually means a PHP error. The error logs show the exact cause, and most fixes take hours, not days.

Common questions
Why is my website showing a white screen?
A blank white page usually means a PHP error the server is hiding from visitors. Common causes are a plugin or extension update, a PHP version change by your host, a full disk or a corrupted file. We read the error logs to find the exact cause.
Why does my website say "There has been a critical error"?
That is WordPress telling you a plugin, theme or PHP change has caused a fatal error. WordPress usually emails the site admin a recovery link. If that does not help, we find and fix the cause.
Is my website down or is it just me?
Try it on your phone with Wi-Fi turned off. If it loads there, the problem may be your network. If not, check whether your domain or hosting has expired, then call your host. If the host says everything is fine, the problem is in the site itself, and that is where we come in.
Could my website have been hacked?
Sometimes a broken site is a hacked site. Redirects, spam pages, strange files or a host suspension point that way. If we find signs of a hack, we switch to our hacked website repair process.
Why would anyone want to hack my site? It is just a small business.
Because hackers want an easy target they can take over and control. Most attacks are automated: bots scan millions of sites for known weaknesses and break into whichever ones are open. Your site is useful to them for sending spam, hosting phishing pages or attacking others, whatever the size of your business.
